Guests are captivated by the idea of an African Safari as it portrays visions of migrating wildebeests, cheetah stalking their prey across endless grasslands and being one with nature. We offer our guest an excellent choice of activities to explore all that the Masai Mara has to offer whilst on safari.
Enjoy a full or half day of discovery in the world renowned Masai Mara Game Reserve which is within comfortable driving distance of Leleshwa Camp. Your guide and tracker will set the route for your game drive depending upon the season and their local knowledge of where the best wildlife viewing is to be found. They are experts at identifying flora and fauna and will interpret the behavior of the different animals that you encounter.
As the animals are most active during the early hours of the day, we recommend an early start with a mid morning picnic breakfast pausing for lunch under a shaded tree on the banks of the Mara River. Your guide and tracker will set out a traditional picnic with ice cold drinks after which you can enjoy a siesta on the blankets and cushions we provide before continuing your afternoon game drive back towards Camp.
Explore the Siana Conservancy which boasts a rich diversity of game and bird species consisting of our resident predators which includes three lion prides, numerous leopards and cheetah, large herds of plains game and shy forest dwellers. Game drives in our conservancy are private and undisturbed therefore guests will rarely encounter other vehicles. Many guest enjoy ending their stay at Leleshwa Camp by rising early on their final morning to watch the sunrise over the African plains with a steaming cup of coffee and hot muffin.
At Leleshwa Camp we offer you the opportunity to rise above the world on an enthralling Hot Air Balloon Ride across the Reserve’s untamed vistas. You will depart camp at dawn with your guide and tracker who will escort you to the launch site and follow the balloon to the landing site.
After a champagne breakfast enjoyed with your fellow passengers, you retreat to the privacy of your own vehicle and can continue on a full day game drive with a picnic lunch before returning to camp.
Please note that there is a supplementary charge for the balloon ride and this should be booked in advance as passenger space is limited.
We have no age limits on children at Leleshwa Camp and the African bush is the perfect place to capture the young imagination. As well as joining their parents on the main activities, children can enjoy a special walk along the river bed with your tracker exploring the tracks and signs, learning how the Masai start a fire with sticks and elephant dung, practise throwing a spear or learn how to use a bow and arrow.
Whilst parents are enjoying a siesta, children can keep their little hands busy with drawing, painting, creating plaster casts of animal footprints, making clay animals, baking animal shaped bread and biscuits or on a treasure hunt. A busy day is often rounded off roasting marshmallows around the camp fire.
